Step Into Summer: Why Movement Matters More Than You Think
Summer can be such a great time to reset routines, spend more time outside, and reconnect with simple habits that help us feel good physically and mentally.
That’s why we love the idea of a Summer Steps Challenge.
Not because girls need to hit a perfect number.
Not because movement should feel stressful.
But because regular movement helps girls feel more energized, confident, focused, and connected to themselves.
And the best part? It doesn’t have to be complicated.
Walking is one of the easiest ways to support both physical and emotional well-being. Even small increases in daily movement can help improve mood, reduce stress, support sleep, boost energy, and strengthen overall health.
For girls especially, movement can become less about “exercise” and more about learning how to care for their bodies in ways that feel positive and sustainable.
Why Walking Is So Powerful
Walking gives girls a chance to:
Get fresh air and sunlight
Take a break from screens
Move their bodies without pressure
Build healthy routines
Spend time with friends or family
Clear their minds and reduce stress
Many girls open up more during walks, too. There’s something about moving side-by-side that creates space for conversation, connection, and emotional regulation.
Make It Fun This Summer
One of the easiest ways to keep movement consistent is to make it enjoyable instead of turning it into another chore.
Try:
A sunset family walk
A neighborhood scavenger hunt
Dance breaks in the kitchen
Exploring a new hiking trail
Walking with a friend while listening to music
A weekend “step challenge” with siblings or parents
The goal isn’t perfection.
The goal is simply to help girls build a positive relationship with movement.

Summer Steps Challenge
This month, we’re encouraging girls and families to move a little more each week in ways that feel realistic and fun.
Week 1
Start with a goal that fits your current routine and energy level.
That could be:
A daily step goal
A walking time goal
A distance goal
Or simply committing to moving every day
Week 2
Increase your movement a little:
+1,000 steps
+10 minutes
Or another half mile
Try something new to keep it exciting, hiking, dancing, swimming, or exploring a new walking path.
Week 3
Build consistency and invite someone to join you.
Friends, siblings, parents, or grandparents can all help make movement more motivating and fun.
Week 4
Finish strong and celebrate your progress.
Maybe that’s your longest walk yet, a family challenge, or simply recognizing how much stronger and more energized you feel.
Because confidence doesn’t only grow from big accomplishments.
Sometimes it grows from keeping small promises to yourself over and over again.
And healthy habits built in simple moments during childhood often become the routines girls carry with them for life.
